COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS OVERVIEW

The SAHELI study team is partnering with NorthShore University HealthSystem, Metropolitan Asian Family Services, Skokie Health Department, Asian Human Services Family Health Center, and Park West Family Medicine on a collaborative effort to engage the South Asian community in heart disease prevention.

NORTHSHORE UNIVERSiTY HEALTH SYSTEM

NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) is an integrated healthcare delivery system, headquartered in Evanston, IL, includes four hospitals including Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park and Skokie. NorthShore University HealthSystem has partnered with the SAHELI study team to bring awareness and engage the South Asian community in the Chicagoland areas. 

METROPOLITAN ASIAN FAMILY SERVICES (MAFS)

Metropolitan Asian Family Services (MAFS) is a multicultural and multi-ethnic organization that educates, assists and empowers the immigrant community to adjust to life in the U.S. and become productive members of society. MAFS has been working with the SAHELI study team for the past eight years to improve cardiovascular health in South Asians. 

VILLAGE OF SKOKIE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

The Skokie Health Department (SHD) is only one of seven state-certified municipal health departments in Illinois and provides a wide range of services to Skokie residents including animal control, environmental health, personal health, and birth and death records. SHD has partnered with the SAHELI study team to improve the health of South Asians living in Skokie and the surrounding areas. To read more, click below:

NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY

Northwestern University (NU) is a leading research university that is home to more than 90 school-based centers and more that 50 university research centers. With an interdisciplinary culture, our research spans a spectrum of areas including neuroscience, nanotechnology, biotechnology and drug discovery. Dr. Namratha Kandula and her team were awarded an R01 grant, "Community Translation of the South Asian Healthy Lifestyle Intervention (SAHELI)," from the National Hearth, Lung, and Blood Institute. The ultimate goal of this research is to address the unmet challenge of eliminating cardiovascular disparities in South Asians in the U.S.
